Janna Hoskin was born in Fort McMurray, the daughter of an Anglican priest and a stay-at-home mom cum piano teacher. She is the oldest of four children, and the only girl. The family moved several times while Janna was growing up, living primarily in small towns throughout Alberta.
Janna received her Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Calgary in 1998, and supplemented that education with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay in 2001.
Since completing her studies, Janna has lived in North Vancouver, British Columbia, and Calgary, Alberta. She has recently moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and is taking the opportunity to follow her lifelong dream of supporting herself through her writing.
Janna is a sincere believer in the importance of lifelong learning, and continues to take classes and read books about her diverse interests, which include various mental health disorders, religion and spirituality, assorted health topics, computers and technology, personal finance, home management (e.g., cooking, gardening, decorating, organizing), and animals. She is also a fan of both science fiction and fantasy novels, and can often be found with her nose in a young adult novel, a piece of historical fiction, or a biography of one of her favourite movie stars (e.g., Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant) or authors (e.g., Lucy Maude Montgomery, Margaret Laurence, Ursula K. LeGuin, Orson Scott Card). She and her partner share their home with two guinea pigs and a cat.
