Locations and parking and whatnot for the ceremony!

Posted by admin - June 23rd, 2010

The wayward bride has finally remembered that some of her guests may not know how to get to the Cathedral. Well, wonder no longer! This post should help you figure it out!

There are basically two ways you can get to the Cathedral. One way is to drive, the other is to take the C-train.

Driving
The Cathedral is on the corner of 1st Street and 7th Avenue SE. It’s kitty corner from the Telus Convention Centre.
Parking downtown can be a tricky thing. The Cathedral web site gives some options. Parking downtown is also rather expensive.

C-train
The Olympic Plaza station is literally right outside of the Cathedral, so if you are coming from either the SE or the NE, you will simply get off the train and walk right on into the church. If you’re coming from the NW, you need to get off at the 1st Street station, which is right outside of the Telus Convention Centre. Cross 1st Street and 7th Avenue and you’ll be there! Sadly, Calgary Transit has chosen to start charging for parking at all of its train stations, but that is still cheaper than parking downtown.

You will know you are in the right location both because the Cathedral has a sign outside and because there is a beautiful mural of a dove on the building across the street (the Calgary Urban Project Society [CUPS] building).

Other Locations

Every other place we will be over the weekend has free parking available, either in lots or on the street. If you know the address for an event location but aren’t sure how to get there, please don’t be afraid to ask or look up the location’s web site – most places have written up excellent directions these days!

The basic details, all in one place.

Posted by admin - June 1st, 2010

Just to make sure everyone knows what’s going on, especially if your invitation hasn’t arrived yet:

The ceremony is at The Cathedral Church of the Redeemer, which is the Anglican Cathedral. It is in Calgary. It is right smack dab in the middle of downtown, and is easily accessible by C-train. (The Olympic Plaza stop is directly outside the front doors.) The ceremony will begin at 2.00 p.m., on July 3, 2010.

Even if you have not received an invitation, you are welcome at the ceremony to help support us as we begin this new chapter in our lives.

If you choose to attend the ceremony, it would be awesome (but it is not required) if you would come dressed in mediaeval clothing.

If you are wondering about our registry, please check out the link in the sidebar.

If you have any other questions, please e-mail us or leave a comment!

You need to RSVP (even if you’re “a given”), so look at that RSVP card and have at it!

Also, our Registry information is linked in the sidebar, under the Enlightenment header. If you need to know anything else, please feel free to ask here!

More about clothes – and a movie suggestion!

Posted by admin - May 22nd, 2010

We went to see Robin Hood last night (yes, the new one with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchet) and quite enjoyed it. The clothes they were wearing were well-designed, and though they were a little later in period than the year the movie was supposed to be set in (the movie was at the turn of the twelfth century, and their clothes were a bit later than that), the costume designers weren’t so silly as to put everyone in Renaissance outfits or even late medieval clothing, so all is well.

Which is a rather roundabout way of saying that if you aren’t sure what you should wear or how to do your hair, go see this movie and get some inspiration!

About the Wedding Cake

Posted by admin - April 22nd, 2010

Somehow, we lucked out and got Victoria German, Instructor Baking and Pastry Arts at SAIT, to do our wedding cake! It’s not your typical wedding cake, but it’s definitely “us”. Victoria doesn’t have a web site, but if you’re interested in talking to her about your own wedding cake (after our review, I expect), you can call her at 403-686-3015.

Engagement Photos!

Posted by admin - April 20th, 2010

Last Saturday afternoon, Juniper and I met with my friend Mal and she took a bunch of pictures of us in a few different locations around Saskatoon. Here is a slide show of my favourite shots. Be on the lookout for a Page devoted to all of the pictures from Saturday.

So Janna was in Calgary last week…

Posted by admin - February 19th, 2010

Janna flew to Calgary on February 9 (late night), had dinner with friends on February 10; met with caterers and checked out one of the (already booked) venues on February 11; did some shopping, met with a dance guy from the SCA, had a family dinner, and started the Knitting Olympics on February 12; went dress shopping on February 13; and bought a dress on February 14, after church.

Progress to date?

We have venues booked, we may have a caterer booked, the dress is ordered, and we might actually end up having dancing at the reception!

Still need to make final decisions regarding decor, flowers, bridesmaids dresses, what the men will be wearing, invitations, and the guest list.

Welcome!

Posted by admin - December 26th, 2009

Welcome to our engagement blog. I (Janna) will update whenever something new comes along, so be sure to either subscribe via RSS or check back often! We’ll be offering little details about our plans, tidbits of information about special surprises (e.g., my dress), and links to important web sites (e.g., registry, costuming, venues).

At some point, the Pages will be updated with the story of how we met, as well as the story of the proposal. There will also be short bios of each of the major players in the wedding – the bride, the groom, their parents, and the wedding party. And, of course, pictures! We will share photos of things that are important to our relationship and to the wedding, as well as video and photos of the wedding itself, once the event is over. We’ll probably even “take you along” on our honeymoon!

We are both incredibly excited about our engagement, and we hope you all share in our joy as we prepare for this most important day!
